Leadership Tip: Giving Feedback

There are two purposes for providing feedback: to either change behavior or maintain it. There are no other reasons.

Give feedback when

  • The person asked for your opinion.
  • You asked for and were given
permission to give input, and you
have a specific example to share.
  • The incident happened recently,
preferably within a week.
  • You are trying to help the person
improve his or her performance or want to be sure he or she keeps doing something that is working.
